There is hereby announced that, by order of the Rector of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Professor João Sàágua, dated 02/12/2025, a recruitment procedure is open for the hiring of a Senior Technician for the funding of LISBOA2030-FEDER-01317200 - Hub de Inovação Pré-clínica-para-Clínica da NOVA Medical School (HubP2C) project, to be executed at NOVA Medical School | Faculty of Medical Sciences, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa under an Indefinite Individual Employment Contract, in accordance with the Labor Code and the Regulations of the leaders of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (Regulation no. 577/2017, of October 31, published in the Diário da República, 2nd Series, no. 210, of October 31), hereinafter referred to as the Regulation.

1. Workplace: 

Research Hub of NOVA Medical School (NMS | FCM) of the NOVA University Lisbon (UNL), located at Rua Câmara Pestana, n.ºs 6, 6-A e 6-B, 1150-082 Lisbon, Portugal. 

2. Job Description: 

The candidates will be involved in: 

• Monitor animal welfare and ensure effective communication with facility users and management. 

• Implement and optimize methods for monitoring animal welfare. 

• Identify and report potential welfare issues, proposing solutions and improvements. 

• Guide researchers on matters related to animal welfare and the application of the 3Rs principles (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement). 

• Deliver training to new researchers and assess their competence in common animal experimentation techniques and procedures. 

• Train and support researchers in basic surgical principles, including aseptic techniques, handling of surgical instruments, anaesthesia, and perioperative care. • Support and participate in Laboratory Animal Science training courses at NMS. 

• Provide specialized services within the animal facility, including clinical treatments and procedures to ensure animal welfare, anaesthesia techniques, surgery, pre- and post-operative care, genotyping, collection of biological fluids, tissues, and organs, live imaging, and colony management. 

• Collaborate with researchers in assessing the severity of procedures, monitoring their progression during projects, and conducting retrospective reviews. 

• Participate in the review of animal experimentation projects and assist with the submission of project applications and individual license requests to the relevant authorities. 

• Ensure the accurate maintenance of records related to animal experimentation activities, including medication and substance administration. 

• Train and support researchers in the use of the animal facility management software. 

3. General Admission Requirements (Academic Qualifications): 

The candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine, Veterinary Nursing, Health Sciences, or Biological Sciences. 

4. Specific Requirements: 

Candidates must have: 

• Specific training in Animal Welfare (preferably).

• Training in Laboratory Animal Science (preferably). 

• Previous experience in similar or relevant roles (preferably). 

• Experience and aptitude for working with animals.

7. Selection Methods:

The selection will be based on Curriculum Evaluation (CE) and may be supplemented by a Professional Selection Interview (PSI), if deemed necessary by the Selection Committee. The final classification will be expressed on a scale of 0 to 20 points and results from the following formula:

 Final Classification = (30% CE) + (70% PSI) 

The evaluation parameters and the weighting of the selection methods are noted in the minutes of the selection committee meeting, available to candidates upon request.
