Salary:  £29,762 to £44,414 per annum, depending on skills and experience (minimum £33348 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

Reference:  ENG146023 Applicants are invited for the above research position to join the Power Electronics, Machines and Drives Research Group at the University of Nottingham.  The PEMC group has undergone a significant period of growth and now has over 150 members, with 18 academics (including 7 full professors) and approximately 120 PhD students and post-doctoral research fellows.  The group has excellent facilities for experimental work including approximately 2500m2 of research space and a construction and testing capability up to 5MW.

 

The successful candidate will conduct research in innovative electric propulsion systems for future de-carbonised, green aircraft and will support delivery of one of our new flagship EU-funded projects. In particular, the role holder will work in the areas of design, modelling and simulation, optimisation, development and laboratory testing of future aircraft electric propulsion drive systems.

Candidates should hold, or be shortly due to obtain a PhD, or equivalent, in a topic encompassing power electronics, electric drives and advanced control, and demonstrate:

  • Excellent knowledge of state-of-the-art in power electronic systems and electric drives
  • Excellent knowledge and skills in relevant MATLAB/Simulink, Altium, PLECS and/or other relevant software tools
  • Extensive practical experience in hardware development and testing of power electronics based systems

Good research methodology, communication skills and the ability to work in a team are essential. The successful candidate will be expected to liaise with industrial partners, prepare and present reports and disseminate results of their work through academic publications and presentations.

This position will be offered on an initial fixed-term contract for a period of 24 months. Hours are full time (36.25 hours per week). Job share arrangements may be considered.
